Soul and spirit have been “intertwined” in our minds, confusing us, on purpose. Are they the same, or different?
The fact is that they have no more in common than you and your underwear.
YOU are the spirit that burns at 98.6 degrees in your chest right now. It is was given birth to by it’s parent/God (God is spirit / spirit gives birth to spirit) a very long time ago.
Your PHYSICAL BODY (flesh gives birth to flesh) began when mum’s egg was fertilized by your pop’s seed.
Your spirit was SPECIALLY CHOSEN, by it’s Father, for this mission ahead – your life. Your “big”, full sized spirit was “shoehorned” into the tiny, growing embryo at around 10 weeks old, once the blood began to circulate (life is in the blood).
You two, your body and spirit, have been inseparable ever since.
THEN, a physical human body, animated by an indwelling eternal spirit, GENERATES A SOUL GARMENT to RECORD THE EVENTS of the life.
Your soul is recording every aspect of your life. Your emotional state. Mental state. Physical state. Words. Actions. Hunches. Hungers. It takes a copy of you from every conceivable angle, and even more angles that we can’t conceive of.
The soul is a structure the exact shape and size as its host human body. It basically dies when the body dies. This is stated over and over by Jesus and Paul.
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body.” Mat 10:28
“…foundation laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames”. 1 Cor 3:11-15
What is the PURPOSE of the soul? It appears it’s purpose is to house, or hold the gold, silver, and costly stones that YOU GENERATE WITH YOUR LIFE. But that is only temporary. Upon your demise, they will be transferred to their rightful owner – the master builder of the universe.
You are currently in the business of manufacturing building materials for the home that you will inhabit. The gold, silver and stones you generate NOW will be used to build the dwelling that you will inhabit during the 1000 year rein of Christ.
What will your dwelling look like? A cardboard shack with a tin roof, or a big boss pad?

Afterwards, the body and soul are simply destroyed – discarded like dirty laundry – with no further need for them.
