A question we must each individually ask is what is Babylon? Is there some way we can each apply the concept of Babylon to our own walk with the Lord? Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes..
Rev. 18:4,5.
The most telling phrase in these two verses is, “Come out of her, my people.”
If you think Babylon is some other religious group, or cult, or Eastern religion, or city or place or philosophy then there would be no reason for the Lord to be calling you out of her. It is but a smoke screen to say Babylon is this or that outside of yourself.
Yes the World Trade Center is a symbol (not the symbol) of the economic prosperity so loved by the world. But it in itself is not Babylon. Neither is New York or the U.S.A. I can’t come out of New York because I’m not in New York.
I can, however, come out of the bondage or hold that the systems of the world have on me and come into the security of the Kingdom of God. Remember we are to seek first the Kingdom of God.
Babylon basically is three parts.
“And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
” Rev. 16:19
Those parts are the religious, economic and political philosophies of the world system. They all partake of the intelligensia that run them. The Lord is calling us out of them.
Each of us should be examining the hold we are allowing the world system to have on us. Yes we are to be in it but not of it. We have to work and live in the midst of the world’s systems but our allegenceMy people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace. All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers. Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
Jer. 50:6-8
This is the call. Don’t wait for some one else to lead you out but you be as the “he goats before the flocks.” “Come out of her my people”, says Jesus. “Seek first the Kingdom of God.”
